Overview:
This project is to provide IT support services for a US federal government agency. Work location in onsite in the Washington, DC area. This project provides IT support services to support the computer users and general IT operations. Project IT support services are to manage and maintain the customer network and systems to ensure consistent network connectivity, network security, internet access, manage e-mail services, applications support, information assurance support, operate the Help Desk and provide customer support. The primary goal is to ensure the customer networks and systems deliver a consistently high level of performance, reliability, provide high quality solutions; and provide excellent customer service to resolve issues quickly for all users. You may be asked to work a flexible work schedule on occasion, outside normal business hours of 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, either on-site or through phone, to support scheduled downtime or non-scheduled emergency downtime. You will be part of a team supporting the complete project scope that includes system engineers, network engineers, system administrators, security specialists, and Tier 2 help desk specialists. The computer platforms supported include Windows, Linux, and Unix.

Responsibilities:
This is a high-level hands-on System Administration Lead position for a team of Systems Administrators for IT Support services to support the computers users and general IT operations. Manage and maintain the Servers and Systems. The objective is to keep IT servers and systems operating at peak performance, and maintain accessibility for end-users. Will be working with another team of two Linux/Unix system administrators and a team of Systems/Network Engineers. The primary responsibilities of the Lead System Administor include but are not limited to the following:
  • Managing a small team of system administrators.
  • Manage space on the network drives.
  • Monitor system performance to determine current and potential problems and propose system additions and enhancements to improve performance.
  • Support major system architecture changes and servers/devices migration such as: new devices deployment and movement, new server deployment and movement, and Virtualization architecture migrations.
  • Management of UNIX, Linux, Solaris, Windows, VMware and other virtualized operating systems.
  • Support and maintain the operating systems, patches, and upgrades of all systems.
  • Ensure that all systems are online and available to customers.
  • Develop a backup strategy and ensure storage backups and contingency issues are addressed.
  • Perform regular backups of network files, and as required, restoration of files.
  • Perform incremental and full backups.
  • Perform test restores from backup tapes weekly and document the results.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Computer Science or other equivalent technical disciplines AND the following certification:
    • Security+
  • 8 yrs. experience as a System Administrator managing a small team of system administrators.
  • 5 yrs. hands-on experience with Microsoft, Linux, Unix server operating systems.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere virtualization platform.
  • Experience working within a primary Data Center environment, with a backup Disaster Recovery site.
  • Excellent customer-focused problem resolution skills, to troubleshoot to root-cause.
  • Experienced with Creating and deleting all network/user/non-personal entity/E-Mail accounts, password management and administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
Desired/Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • DoD experience, preferable Army customer experience.
  • Experience with Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper Router/Switches network components.
  • Experience with NetApp and Dell enterprise storage solutions.
  • Experience with Cisco wireless access points and wireless controllers.
  • Experience working with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) to unite computing, networking, storage access, and virtualization.
  • Experience with Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Any of the following certifications:
    • MCITP - Microsoft Support IT Professional
    • MCSE - Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
    • MCSA - Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
    • VCP - VMware Certified Professional
    • VCDX - VMware Certified Design Expert
    • Linux Plux LX0-103 and LX0-104
    • UNIX Certifications
